The city of Yuncheng, in North China’s Shanxi province, will make an animation feature about Guangong, or Guan Yu the second-century AD general revered as a God of War.
The city will invest 12 million yuan ($1.88 million) in the around 85-minute 2D movie, which will be illustrated by famous cartoonist from Taiwan, Tsai Chih Chung . As the birthplace of Guangong, Yuncheng aims to discover the historical origins of the culture on Guangong and attract more tourists to Yuncheng.
Yuncheng has been working to promote its rich culture into cultural products for the public in recent years and develop itself into an international tourism destination that highlights ancient Chinese civilization.
Cartoonist Tsai Chih Chung is a winner of the Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards-a festival ceremony held annually in Taiwan- for his animation Old Master Q. The new film is expected to release next year.
